This position requires incumbent to be physically present in their assigned region during the required work schedule of 8:00am to 5:00pm Monday through Friday.

Under direction of the Senior Inspector of Automotive Equipment (SIAE), this position serves as an inspector of state owned vehicles and mobile equipment for Region 3 within in San Diego & Imperial Counties that also include Mission Viejo, Southern tip of Orange County, Oceanside, Escondido, Murrieta, Fall brook, Salt and Sea, El Centro, Brawley, Mexicali, Santee, Spring Valley, National City, El Cajon, Chula Vista, Imperial Beach, Borrego Springs and Sun City ensuring safety, reliability and compliance with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS), Society of Automotive Engineers, and OFAM policies and procedures that have been set forth under the guidelines of the State Administrative Manual (SAM) for state agencies and clients.

This position is designated under the Conflict of Interest Code.  The position is responsible for making or participating in the making of governmental decisions that may potentially have a material effect on personal financial interests.  The appointee is required to complete Form 700 within 30 days of appointment and once per year.

This position may require travel.

Desirable Qualifications

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:

  1. Experience evaluating motor vehicles and general use mobile equipment and facilitating the disposal and/or re-utilization of state assets between state agencies or equivalent.
  2. Willingness to travel throughout an assigned area.
  3. Experience filling out forms and writing emails and letters using the following programs: Word, Excel, Outlook, Fleet Focus, or another fleet system, and using search engines such as Chrome and Edge.
  4. Ability to always act professionally, resolve discrepancies tactfully, and effectively represent the department to internal and external stakeholders and vendors.
  5. Excellent customer service skills.
