Fabricator (Part-Time or Full-Time) Somerville / Boston area • Black Cat Labs

Black Cat Labs is a design-driven fabrication shop specializing in custom components, sheet metal and digital fabrication. We partner with engineers, artists, and companies building robotics, biotech, signage and public art projects. We’re looking for hands-on Fabricators who thrive in a workshop environment and want to grow with us.

What you’ll do:

• Operate laser cutters and CNC fiber and CO2 lasers (training available).
• Support sheet metal fabrication using press brake forming, welding, and finishing.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings to build accurate parts.
• Assist in the assembly of custom projects, prototypes, and installations.
• Contribute to a safe, organized, and creative shop environment.

What we’re looking for:

• Experience in at least one of these areas: metalworking, welding, press brake, or laser cutting.
• Comfortable with hand tools, measuring tools, and working with sheet metal.
• Ability to read basic engineering or fabrication drawings.
• (Bonus) Exposure to CAD software or CNC programming.
• Problem-solving mindset – able to figure things out and “make it work.”
• Ability to lift materials and parts up to 50lbs.

Schedule & Compensation:

• Open to part-time (minimum 3 days/week) or full-time for the right candidate.
• Hourly pay: $25 and up , depending on experience.
• Reimbursement available for approved tools, training, and safety gear.
