Job Description

At Basepoint Building Automations, we’re driven by innovation, collaboration, and the belief that technology should make buildings — and the people in them — perform at their best.

We are Problem-solvers. Innovators. Builders. Collaborators. Technicians. Engineers. Thinkers. Learners. Leaders. We’re passionate about turning complex systems into simple, sustainable solutions that make a real impact.

We believe in teamwork, continuous learning, challenging projects, and celebrating success together. Sound like you? We’re looking for a Client Consultant who’s ready to bring their expertise, creativity, and energy to help us engineer what’s next — one building at a time.

We are looking for a  Client Consultant  to spearhead business development efforts, manage long-term client relationships, and contribute to our continued growth in the Des Moines area.

As a Client Consultant, you will manage a portfolio of both new and existing clients, focusing on a 1–12-month sales cycle and large project values ranging from $25k to $250k. You’ll thrive in this role if you have a background in IT or SaaS or a related field, are comfortable with longer sales cycles, and can demonstrate success in high-pressure environments while balancing both new business development and client relationship management.

What You’ll Do:

Client Engagement & Relationship Management

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to clients by understanding their facility needs and recommending integrated solutions in building automation, access control, video surveillance, intercoms, and automated entry systems.
  • Conduct site visits and consultations to assess client environments and propose service enhancements.
  • Build and maintain long-term relationships with facility managers, engineers, and contractors.

Sales Development & Client Retention

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for an assigned portfolio of service clients, ensuring consistent satisfaction and long-term loyalty.
  • Conduct regular account reviews and site visits to assess system performance, identify service needs, and recommend upgrades or enhancements.
  • Proactively identify opportunities to expand service agreements, introduce new technologies, or optimize existing systems (e.g., access control, IP cameras, intercoms, automatic doors).
  • Maintain detailed records of client interactions, service history, and renewal timelines in CRM to support proactive engagement and retention strategies.
  • Collaborate with service and technical teams to ensure timely resolution of client issues and seamless delivery of contracted services.
  • Monitor client satisfaction through surveys, feedback loops, and informal check-ins, escalating concerns as needed to ensure resolution.
  • Educate clients on new product offerings, software updates, and industry trends that may benefit their operations.
  • Track and report on client retention metrics, renewal rates, and upsell performance as part of the weekly sales pipeline report.

Proposal & Presentation Delivery

  • Develop and deliver customized proposals and scopes of work that clearly outline system capabilities, integration points, and service benefits.
  • Collaborate with engineering and project management teams to ensure proposals are technically sound and aligned with client expectations.
  • Create and present solution-focused PowerPoint decks tailored to vertical markets such as schools, retail, energy, and healthcare.

Collaboration & Reporting

  • Work closely with marketing to develop targeted campaigns and collateral for automation and security solutions.
  • Provide weekly updates on sales activities, pipeline status, and client feedback.
  • Coordinate with project managers to ensure smooth handoff and execution of sold projects, including scope reviews and site meetings.

Who You Are:

  • Sales hunter mentality:  You are driven by a strong desire to generate new business, with a focus on longer-term sales cycles. You’re a go-getter who thrives on building trust and relationships.
  • Background in construction or technical sales:  Experience in commercial IT solutions or software sales is preferred, but we are open to those with related backgrounds such as construction, engineering, or AV industry sales.
  • Relationship builder:  Strong ability to build and maintain relationships with key decision-makers, such as CIO, IT Directors, Operations Director, Maintenance Director.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit:  You possess an entrepreneurial drive and initiative, willing to navigate the challenges of a longer sales cycle and manage complex projects.

What You Bring:

  • Proven sales track record:  Experience managing a sales pipeline of 1-12 months and successfully closing large deals.
  • Construction knowledge (preferred):  Knowledge of the IT solutions industry is highly desirable, as it will allow you to build relationships faster.
  • Education:  Associate’s degree or higher preferred. Relevant sales experience may substitute for formal education.
  • Experience in estimating:  Ability to develop and present competitive bids.
  • Driver's License required:  Must be willing to travel locally to meet clients and manage sales territory.
  • Strong communication skills:  Ability to communicate effectively both internally and externally with clients and partners.
  • Drive to succeed:  Willingness to fail and learn from mistakes while maintaining a strong focus on financial success.

What We Offer:

  • Base + commission pay  range of $100 - $145K with unlimited commission earning potential.
  • Ownership Mindset:  Be part of a 100% employee-owned company where your success directly impacts your future.
  • Comprehensive Health & Wellness:  Enjoy premium health, dental, vision, and life insurance, along with 401(k), health savings accounts, flexible spending accounts, and employee assistance programs.
